12 Days of Christmas – Day 6!!

Welcome to day 6 of our 12 Days of Christmas event. Don’t forget to link up your projects on our day 1 post to be in with the chance to win!

Today I am sharing a simple way to alter some pre made ornaments. I used a selection of ornaments from Crafty Cutting. These were painted white already so nice and primed for what I wanted to do.

What you will need:

  • Ornaments
  • Distress stains – metalics, silver, gold and bronze

Step 1

Cover the ornaments in a base layer of tarnished brass distress stain.

Step 2

When this is dry dab on antiqued bronze.

Step 3

When this is still wet dab on the brushed pewter stain.

Step 4

Use your finger to blend the two wet colours together to give a lovely aged metallic effect.

You can see the effect on the fully dry ornament below….pic 7

You can see how I did a similar effect on the snowflake but only using the silver stain and letting some of the white show through in order to give a nice frosted effect.pic 8

I also did similar to the reindeer shape too.pic 6

I hope you enjoyed this quick method to alter some ornaments for some last minute Christmas décor!
