Year in Review Layout – Mary Jo

Hi Everyone,

Only a few days to go and it is a whole New Year again!! This is the time when you can look back and think about all the great things that happened during the year.

Mary Jo is going to show us a tutorial on Year in Review layout.

Mary Jo says:

I wanted to make a title page in my 2011 Family album. So I decided to make a “year in review” layout to recap some of the highlights from our year. My layout uses a grid design and repetitive theme for each month to keep things simple!

What You Will Need

  • Cardstock
  • Letter Stickers (large and small)
  • Embellishments
  • Die Cut Journal Cards

I started out with a sheet of kraft cardstock as my base, and a series of die cut journal cards by October Afternoon.

Once I decided on which cards I wanted for each month, I adhered them to my cardstock.

October Afternoon also has a great series of tiny alphabet stickers that I used to label each month.

Next comes some simple title work using a border sticker, alphabet letters and two flower stickers.

I used some free on-line photo software called Picasa to print up smaller sized pictures on white cardstock. I just created a file with the photos I wanted to use and then hit the print option. It then allowed me to shrink the photos down when hit “shrink to fit” and the border option.

On my completed layout you will see that I labeled each photo with some tiny alphabet stickers by Pink Paislee.

So now I have a fun layout to place at the front of my 2011 album that gives viewers an idea of what they will find inside!

Don’t you just love the grid composition that Mary Jo used. It is a great idea for every year. We hope you liked it too.

This is our last blog post for the year 2012, we hope that you found great inspiration here through the year.

Our next Issue is out on the 1st January 2013.

Crafting Ireland Team is wishing you a very Happy New Year that is filled with crafty goodness!!

12 Days of Christmas – Day 11!!

Hi and welcome to our 12 Day of Christmas Inspirations,

This is Day 11 already, I hope you are all enjoying our Christmas ideas and find some time in this busy season to craft.

Today I’m going to show you another very quick idea to store and display the Christmas Cards that you receive from your friends and family.

What you will need:

  • 1 clothes hanger (I got child size)
  • Patterned paper
  • washi tape
  • wide ribbon  ( I had a snowflake die cut ribbon for years, so I used that)

All you need to do is:

Measure the clothes hanger and create a very shallow box that is open on the bottom. Make you sure that you cut an opening on the top of the box so the hook of the hanger can come through.

Before you close the box shut add the ribbon to one side of the box. I stapled the ribbon to make sure it will not fall off when I hang the the cards on it. You can also attach the ribbon to the hanger if you want.

Close the box and put the hanger in it. I added washi tape all around the edges. Decorate the front if you want.

And there you have a Christmas Card holder for all your Christmas Cards.

I hope you liked this idea.

Happy Christmas Crafting,

Swap Reminder

Good morning everyone, just a quick reminder from us about the next swap….

For the swap you will be assigned a partner and a theme to follow. You then create a mini album to send to your partner, and you will receive one in return.

The rules for the swap are quite simple;

  • The album should be no bigger than 6″x6″
  • It should have at least 6 pages including the front and back covers.
  • Please remember that your swap partner (probably) doesn’t know you and the work you send will be their first impression of you – so make sure that you are proud of your work and would be happy to receive something similar.
  • Please do not sign up for this swap unless you can complete the swap, your partner may be overseas and you are responsible for postage fees.
  • You must have an email address to enter – this means you can contact your swap partner to discuss favourite colours etc.
  • Sometimes people send extra goodies with an album, this is a      lovely gesture but NOT compulsory, therefore it is up to you. Please do not expect to receive extras!
  • The last and most important rule is…. Enjoy creating!!

To join the swap you will need to email your details to Felicia at;
felicia@craftingirelandonline.ie

How to join in

Issue 11 Swap Theme—Mini Tag Book

  • Create a mini book from large shipping tags. You can bind it as you wish, with a single binding ring through the tag hole or be more creative if you prefer!
  • Sign up deadline—Sunday the 15th July by 1pm GMT. You must have emailed Felicia your details by this date and time to be included in the swap
  • Swap partners announced—Monday the 16th July. You will be told who your swap partner is, and given their email address so that you can get in contact to exchange postal addresses, style preference, etc
  • Albums must be in the post by— Monday the 13th August (or sooner). Try to get the album posted as soon as you can so that your partner can hopefully receive it before the next swap is announced!

When you have finished your album consider taking a photo of it before posting it, and email this photo to Felicia. We will then publish these photos along side the next swap announcement. We will publish them without names just in case your partner has not yet received your album—we wouldn’t want to ruin the surprise!!
